POLAR

Cooperation between Datico® and Polar Electro

The integration of wearable data into professional application environments is no longer a purely technical issue – it is primarily a question of data sovereignty, compliance and architectural decisions.

This is precisely where the collaboration between Datico® and Polar Electro comes into play.

While Polar, as a technologically leading manufacturer, provides a powerful device and data basis, Datico® creates the necessary integration layer to make this data secure, controlled and usable for specific projects – regardless of whether they are clinical studies, university research or industrial applications.

A key added value of this partnership lies not only in the technical integration, but in particular in the ability to flexibly map different data protection and operating models.

Data sovereignty as a decisive differentiating factor

In many projects – particularly in healthcare, research, the public sector or the military environment – the use of external cloud infrastructures is not permitted or only possible to a very limited extent.

This is precisely where Datico® offers a clear strategic advantage:

  • Hosting in Germany on controlled infrastructures
  • Possibility to conclude an order processing agreement (AVV)
  • No forwarding or external evaluation of data
  • Option for complete storage in the customer’s own systems
  • Avoidance of dependencies on third-party platforms

While traditional wearable integrations are often dependent on the manufacturer’s cloud, Datico® also deliberately enables cloud-independent operating models – a decisive factor for regulatory demanding projects.

3 Integration approaches for polar systems

1. API-based integration via Polar Flow
(Datico Wearable Connect)

With this variant, the connection is made via the Polar Cloud or the respective Polar Flow account.

Key feature:
All Polar devices that transmit data to Polar Flow can be integrated automatically.

Classification:

  • Quick start
  • Proven ecosystem
  • Ideal for scalable programs without real-time requirements
  • Limited data sovereignty (depending on Polar Cloud)

2. direct integration via the Datico® LIFE APP (SDK-based)
(Datico Wearable Connect Pro)

Integration takes place directly via the Polar SDK, without using the Polar Cloud.

Key feature:
Only devices that are supported in the Polar BLE SDK are compatible.

Typical supported device categories (based on SDK documentation):

  • Heart rate sensors (e.g. H10, H9)
  • Selected sports watches with BLE data access
  • Sensor-based wearables with direct data transmission

Classification:

  • Full data control
  • No cloud dependency
  • Direct integration into customer-specific data infrastructures
  • Ideal for GDPR-critical and isolated systems

3. real-time data acquisition via Bluetooth (BLE)

Based on the SDK, Datico® also enables synchronized live data acquisition.

This functionality was developed as part of a research project with the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich and addresses highly dynamic application scenarios.

Classification:

  • Real-time streaming
  • Parallel recording of several test subjects
  • Use in laboratories, clinics and industrial environments
  • Basis for live monitoring and immediate decision-making processes

Datico® LIFE HUB: The platform approach for demanding application scenarios

The combination of these three integration strategies creates a flexible architecture model that addresses a wide range of requirements:

  • Clinics: secure patient monitoring without external cloud dependency
  • Research institutions: controlled data collection for studies
  • Industry: Monitoring stress and vital parameters in real time
  • Insurance & BGM: scalable programs with a variable data strategy
  • Military & authorities: completely sealed-off system architectures

The Datico® LIFE HUB acts as a central integration platform that standardizes and consolidates data and makes it available for further processes.

Conclusion

The collaboration between Datico® and Polar Electro enables end-to-end integration of wearable data for the first time , taking full account of data protection, system architecture and real-time requirements.

This gives organizations the freedom to choose between different integration strategies – from a classic cloud connection to a fully sovereign, locally operated solution.

If you would like a concrete evaluation for your project, Datico® will support you in selecting the optimum integration strategy – technically, regulatory and economically sound.

Frequently asked questions about connecting POLAR systems to Datico®

The answer depends on the chosen integration approach:

  • About the Polar API:
All devices that transfer data to the Polar Flow account are compatible.

  • About the Polar SDK (Datico LIFE APP):
Only devices that are supported in the Polar BLE SDK. These include in particular:
    • Polar H10 / H9 heart rate sensors
    • BLE-enabled wearables with direct access to sensor data
    • Selected Polar sports watches with open data communication

This differentiation is crucial for project planning.

Whenever:

  • regulatory requirements (e.g. GDPR, clinical regulations) require this
  • Data must not be stored outside the company’s own infrastructure
  • sensitive projects (e.g. military, research, healthcare) are implemented
  • complete data sovereignty is required

In these cases, SDK-based or direct Bluetooth integration into your own solution is often the only way to go.

  • Complete control over data flows
  • No external storage or further processing
  • Integration into existing IT and security architectures
  • Reduced dependence on third-party providers
  • Real-time capability

This makes the Datico® LIFE APP the central building block for superior wearable architectures.

Yes, the Bluetooth-based integration allows multiple devices to be recorded in parallel and processed synchronously. This is particularly useful for:

  • Performance diagnostics
  • Clinical monitoring
  • Group studies

of high relevance.

Datico® pursues a holistic approach to security:

  • Hosting in Germany
  • Encrypted data transmission
  • Role and rights concepts
  • Possibility of full integration into the customer’s own systems
  • Conclusion of AV contracts

This ensures maximum compliance and security.

  • Universities and research institutions
  • Clinics and rehabilitation centers
  • Industrial companies with monitoring requirements
  • Insurance companies and BGM providers
  • Authorities and military organizations
