Connection to the Datico® LIFE HUB

A new approach to integrated gait analysis
zebris FDM-T now compatible with Datico® LIFE HUB
In neurological rehabilitation, competitive sport and research, high-precision movement data is generated today – often in impressive detail. And yet in many cases its potential remains untapped. The reason is rarely the measurement technology itself, but the lack of integration: data is generated in specialized systems, evaluated there – and remains isolated.
This is precisely where the integration of the systems from zebris Medical GmbH systems into the Datico® LIFE HUB. It not only connects measurement systems with existing IT structures, but also creates a new level of data usage: a central platform in which movement data can be contextualized, combined and used throughout the entire course of therapy for the first time.
At the Neurological Rehabilitation Center Rosenhügel this principle has already been successfully implemented – with a clear objective: not only to measure gait analysis, but to understand it holistically and embed it in the therapeutic context.
Technology in use:
Instrumented treadmill analysis with zebris and h/p/cosmos
zebris is one of the leading providers in the field of biomechanical measurement systems and is particularly known for its high-resolution pressure distribution measurements. The FDM-T system is a specialized solution for dynamic gait analysis.
In combination with treadmill systems from h/p/cosmos sports & medical GmbH a fully instrumented treadmill is created: the zebris pressure measuring plates are integrated directly into the treadmill, while the analysis and evaluation is carried out via the zebris software.
The result is continuous, objective measurement data on gait dynamics – from pressure distributions and step parameters to symmetries and load patterns. An ideal basis for evidence-based therapy decisions.
What integration really changes
With the connection to the Datico® LIFE HUB, the use of the data no longer ends in the manufacturer’s software.
The measurement data from the zebris gait analysis is not only transmitted, but also made available as structured, discrete values in the Datico® LIFE HUB. This opens up completely new possibilities:
- The data can be combined with other diagnostic results
- They become comparable over the entire course of therapy.
- They can be linked to patient feedback or training data
The decisive difference is therefore not in the data transfer – but in the combined and comprehensive use of data that is now possible.
Technical integration at a glance
Integration is streamlined and standardized via the Datico® LIFE HUB:
- Order Entry
Transfer of patient and case data from the HIS to the zebris system via the Datico® LIFE HUB. - Carrying out the gait analysis
Carrying out the measurement and evaluation on the instrumented treadmill (zebris FDM-T + h/p/cosmos). - Retransfer and preparation of results
Automated transfer of reports and the transferred measurement results to the Datico® LIFE HUB. Here, the reports can be supplemented again (e.g. cover sheet, summary) or transferred to new individual reports – in combination with other measurement results, patient feedback, etc. – can be transferred. - Integration in HIS and ePA
The resulting report is then transferred to the HIS, the electronic patient file or other systems as complete documentation and without media discontinuity.
One platform instead of many interfaces
For manufacturers like zebris, the connection to the Datico® LIFE HUB offers several decisive strategic advantages.
Instead of individual integrations to individual target systems, a one-off connection is made to a platform that already supports all relevant interface standards – including HL7, FHIR, DICOM and GDT.
In addition, the Datico® Device Connector enables flexible expansion in the direction of further systems, databases and use cases.
At the same time, a second, often even more decisive level is created:
For the first time, your own measurement data can be combined with other data sources – for example with:
- other medical diagnostic systems
- Wearables and vital data
- app-based patient or athlete surveys (Datico® Smart Forms)
This turns a specialized measurement system into an integral part of a comprehensive data ecosystem.
Summary
From measurement to data-driven therapy
The integration of the zebris FDM-T into the Datico® LIFE HUB is an example of how precise measurement technology can create real added value: not through isolated analysis, but through the intelligent linking of data.
It creates the basis for holistic therapy monitoring – and for new forms of evaluation, control and optimization of therapy processes.
FAQ | Frequently asked questions
Integration of zebris in the Datico® LIFE HUB
How are the zebris systems integrated into the clinical IT landscape?
The integration is based on standardized medical interfaces (GDT, HL7), which are already supported by zebris, and thus enables a fully automated connection to the Datico® LIFE HUB.
In practical operation, this means that patient and case data is transferred from the hospital information system (HIS) to the zebris software in a structured manner (order entry). Once the gait analysis has been performed, the resulting reports, as well as specific measurement data and analysis results, are automatically fed back into the Datico® LIFE HUB.
This end-to-end integration creates a seamless data flow that eliminates the need for manual input and ensures a consistent, error-free database.
How are the measurement data and analysis results processed?
After integration, the measurement data is not only transferred between systems, but also stored and made available as structured, discrete values in the Datico® LIFE HUB.
This means they can be used across systems for the first time. They can be combined with other diagnostic data, treatment courses or results from other systems and placed in a higher-level context.
In addition, the Datico® LIFE HUB enables the integration of other data sources that are not provided for in conventional system architectures – in particular app-based patient or athlete surveys (via Datico® Smart Forms and the Datico® LIFE APP) and data from wearables (via Datico® Wearable Connect).
This creates completely new standardized and automated analysis options – such as a longitudinal overall picture that enables a much deeper analysis of therapy developments and successes.
What are the advantages of integration for clinics and rehabilitation centers?
First of all, there is an immediate operational advantage for facilities: the complete documentation of the gait analysis is automated in the HIS and in the electronic patient file. Manual transmissions are no longer necessary, processes are accelerated and sources of error are reduced.
Furthermore, the Datico® LIFE HUB offers an additional, cross-system level that provides completely new, comprehensive analysis options. Here, treatment courses, process chains and treatment successes can be mapped and analyzed in a structured manner independently of the HIS.
In neurological rehabilitation, competitive sport and research in particular, this provides a significantly improved overview of developments, progress and therapeutic effects.
What are the strategic advantages for manufacturers like zebris of connecting to the Datico® LIFE HUB?
The Datico® LIFE HUB brings together data from a wide variety of sources – from biomechanical measurement systems such as zebris to other diagnostic systems and patient-reported information.
The connection to the Datico® LIFE HUB makes the zebris software directly compatible with all relevant interface standards in the healthcare sector, including HL7, FHIR, DICOM and GDT.
In concrete terms, this means that a single integration enables access to a large number of potential target systems without the need for individual interface projects. This significantly reduces integration costs and simultaneously increases the marketability of the solution.
In addition, the possibility of combining data creates an extended functional benefit: The company’s own measurement data can be linked with other data sources and embedded in new application scenarios – a decisive advantage in the competition for integrated, data-driven solutions.
How does the Datico® LIFE HUB support holistic therapy monitoring?
The Datico® LIFE HUB brings together data from a wide variety of sources – from biomechanical measurement systems such as zebris to other diagnostic systems and patient-reported information.
This aggregation creates a comprehensive, longitudinal patient or athlete profile. Developments can be tracked over time, therapy effects can be objectively evaluated and measures can be adapted in a targeted manner.
In contrast to traditional system landscapes, this creates a genuine data platform that not only documents, but also actively contributes to the control and optimization of therapy processes.
